![]() ![]() Another example are the Founders/Changelings from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I also find this sort of partial/voluntary hive mind more interesting that a full-blown gestalt (which is really just a single organism, the drones can't function individually). So how would one express a world like Pandora? To put it in a different way, if you were to design an origin, civic, or government type to represent a world like this, how would it work? The Progenitor Hive origin has already given us a more grey-area hive, one where instead of a single spevies-wide overmind, several different smaller gestalts coexist as individuals. So is Pandora a hivemind? It seems to operate in some kind of middle ground. ![]() And yet the biosphere of their world operates with a singular global intelligence that they connect to periodically when they physically connect their central nervous system to one of several "trees". The Na'vi in the film are clearly individual persons, not mindless drones. The world of Pandora depicted in the film made me think about the different sorts of hiveminds and the potential for something kind of in-between individual minds and a collective intelligence. ![]() It was better than I thought it would be. ![]()
